A Mommy Daughter Day In

Today Daddy was busy at school all day! Libs and I have been doing so much lately that we decided it would be fun to stay home.

We spent some time singing along to all of our favorite Glee songs. Perhaps that's why my daughter shakes her booty so much when she dances?? Maybe it's too much Glee???

In the evening we all went to Chili's and for once, Miss Libs wanted to sit by me.

The big news of the night was that Libi wrote "music" all on her own. I started to help her with the puzzle. I wrote the first four letters and she traced them. When it came time to do the second word Libi said she wanted to do it all on her own. Ron and I braced ourselves for some wacky chicken scratch, but she did it PERFECTLY!!! It was one of those very proud Mommy moments :)

Animal Show, Dancing Queen, and Final Swimming Lesson...

Ron's team had a little assembly today so Libi and I went to watch.

It a one-man animal show...

where Ron even got in on the action.

Being kissed by a critter isn't up Ron's alley.

He used Mrs. Phillips (who I used to work with at Canyon Springs) to show how his macaw is very protective of him.

My favorite of the day was this porcupine...

and Libi's least favorite was the snake. Do you see her clasped hands?

He even brought one of the monkeys from Pirates of the Caribbean.

We went outside during lunch and the Katy Perry song "Firework" came on...

and Miss Libs danced her little heart out! All around the quad, unaware if anyone was watching her, she simply danced!

Daddy accompanied us to the final swim lesson of the year.

Libi showed him her mastery of: getting out of the pool,

diving alone,

diving in tandem,

and swimming the whole length of the pool.

She is really getting the hang of freestyle...

and was whizzing through the water.

She and Ryan also managed (in 5 minutes time) to dive to the bottom of the shallow end to retrieve 5 rings.

We love Miss Karen and are thankful for another successful year.

Freestyle Queen....

I have a new display in the church-- it's a little caterpillar for the search committee to communicate with the congregation. I'm showing my mad Cricut-ing and my teacher bulletin board making skills.

Today Libi was the PERFECT swimmer!

Miss Karen was simply thrilled with both kids.

Libi was taking breaths like a champ...

jumping in...

and smiling the whole time!

She even was mastering her freestyle arms.

There was tandem jumping....

and breathing! All Miss Karen had to do was hold her fingers up and up those two little heads came.

Libi has been loving her V Reader...

Mommy and Daddy love her using the headphones so we don't have to hear the music :)

Back in business...

I was pretty frustrated with Libi's performance in swimming this week so on the drive over we had a little pep talk. I explained to her that she would never get to do freestyle arms (which Ryan has been working on) if she didn't show Miss Karen she could do torpedo arms with her breathing.

That was all it took-- today she was a stellar swimmer!!

Libi has always struggled with getting out of the pool-- she is strong, but she could totally do this if she tried.

She is great with her jumping today...

even Miss Karen was impressed!

The kids worked more on their jumping...

and their "diving"!

Is it wrong that I love this photo with this little tush hanging out?

By the end of the day she was able to pull her little body out of the pool.

We did a class photo and then it was time to go.

School and bugs and swimming, Oh my!

Libi is totally a dancer! I can't tell you how many times I watch her while she's running or playing and I see her arms extended, her toes pointed-- looking very dancer-ish. Nana would totally love it!

While we were waiting for Miss Karen we found a new friend. I love my camera lens-- it makes me look brave :) I was about fifteen feet away from this ugly little guy when I grabbed this shot.

Swimming today was moderately better.

She still had to be reminded to do things, but a little tap on her head did wonders.

She and Ryan have begun working on tandem swimming and they were both very excited about it!

Swimming Week 2

This morning Libi regressed-- any progress we made last week totally went out the window.

She didn't cry, but she wouldn't get in the water without help, wouldn't use her torpedo arms-- nothing, she did nothing!

Miss Karen used all of her swim whispering techniques...

but you could see from the look on her face that she was frustrated.

Libi still managed to muster up the energy to do her tricks though.
