A beachy day!!

I hope you don't have anywhere to go for a few moments, because this post will take awhile to read. Today we had what Ron refers to as a "Full Rich Day" in honor of a M*A*S*H episode. I began the day at Weight Watchers where I am pleased to announce I have lost 6 pounds thus far!!! We then packed up the car and headed to Carpenteria for a beach day with some MOPS girls. We weren't sure how well Libi would do with the waves, but she showed no fear!! She walked right in and would have kept going if Ron hadn't asked her to stop. Mommy loves that she's not scared of the water, but I would like a healthy amount of fear at the vast power of the Pacific Ocean!!Ron says that her confidence is because she knows we won't let anything bad happen to her-- perhaps this look at me over her shoulder is evidence of that? The weather in the Santa Clarita Valley was dismal-- cold, cloudy, and gloomy all around. The beach was warm (about 70 degrees) and partly sunny. It was so clear off the coast that you could clearly see the Channel Islands!! The light was perfect for taking some really great pictures (hence the long post tonight!!!)I took a bathing suit and shorts for her to wear but she didn't mind going in the water in her sundress. I probably should have put a swim diaper on her though-- her regular one was carrying 2 pounds of sea water :)She thought it was funniest when the waves hit her legs. She would laugh and squeal with delight as each wave hit her. Some of the waves wobbled her a bit, but Daddy was there to steady her.She collected a few shells, but decided to send them back to the ocean-- Mommy needs to show her all of the shells she collected as a girl!I know I took 7,000 pictures of them with their back to me, but I love the perspective of this shot: a girl and her Daddy exploring the world together! We took our sand toys to share with our friends. Ron tried to teach Libi how to construct a sand castle...First put the sand in the bucket, then turn over to make the walls. This lasted all of 5 minutes before it was back to the water!!!One of the Mom's was kind enough to take a family portrait for us. Yes, we were lame and had the stroller on the beach-- we parked about a quarter of a mile away from the beach so Libs needed a little help.We dried off for a bit...and Libs got me all sandy by climbing all over me! Then we said, "Goodbye" to the MOPS gang and headed off on the next leg of our adventure which led us to.....SOLVANG!!! Ron is planning a retreat here later in the summer and needed to scope a few things out, so we did a little exploring. We had to take Libs picture in the wooden shoe (we forgot to do it last summer when we were there!)She wanted her picture taken with Hans Christian Andersen-- I think she thought it was Lincoln at first-- once we told her that he wrote Little Mermaid she was all over him!!Libs wanted to see Daddy as the soldier, but she would NOT go inside to be the soldier herself!! After our whirl-wind tour of Solvang we decided to head back to Santa Barbara for dinner, but not before a brief stop at.....
Ostrich Land!!! Yep, we finally stopped to see what all the hubub was about. I got to feed the ostriches (Libi was too short to do it) and it was so much fun!!!! They are really strong-- I had to hold onto their food for dear life!!There were birds everywhere you looked!!! It was such fun...to see them up-close!!!!This photo shows you just how close you can get to them-- pretty special!!!We had to do the touristy thing and put Libi in the cut-out-- kind hokey, but fun!!Libi finally napped at 5 p.m. as we were driving back to dinner. She slept through our whole meal which means that Ron and I got a romantic date. We ate at a great beach-side restaurant in Goleta-- I ate clam chowder and was in heaven!!! Poor Libs woke up as we were leaving which meant that she was hungry. We stopped at a Carl's Junior to fulfill her dinner request for a ....cheeseburger (her Granpa would be so proud!!) She ate the bun and the cheese and left nearly all of the meat...but it was quite a big dinner for a little girl!!!
