Cinco de Mayo

Today our Mom's Club went on our final traveling field trip of the year. We met up at the La Brea Tar Pits (aka the Page Museum) which I hadn't been to in years. To get into the spirit I dressed Libi in a tar pit brown dress complete with elephant barrettes (it was the closest I could get to woolly mammoth ones!)She was so excited to see the dinosaurs-- problem is there are no dinosaurs at the museum. I couldn't figure out how to explain fossils to a 2 year old, so I went along with the dinosaur excitement. While we waited Libi danced to a cowboy hat-wearing, banjo playing man.She was fascinated by the pool of tar-- she tried to get the gate open to go in for a swim. When our friends started getting there the dancing got bigger....and the twirling began. We did our famous kid portrait in front of the sign-- it is way too hard to get 8 kids to all look at the camera at the same time!Once inside Libi found her dinosaurs-- anything that was only bones was a dino. I did tell her their proper names: sloth, mammoth, sabre tooth tiger, etc. but all she wanted to hear was dinosaur. Oh well, I'll reprogram her before she gets to school. She did call this an elephant-- which is much closer to its actual name so we're not doing too badly!I forgot how small the museum really is-- our kids blew through it in no time!A few things caught their attention: this sign to measure yourself against a bear...the bones to touch...and the gardens in the center of the building....which had....turtles!!!

So as to not waste a trip to L.A. (it took longer to drive down then it did to explore the museum) Libi and I went to the Grove/Farmer's Market afterwards. She napped while I explored and window shopped. Once she woke up we went to lunch at the Cheesecake Factory (sorry Amy!) It was the nicest lunch we've had. We chatted and Libi sang, she politely asked for water and a "dilla" from the server, and everyone sitting near us thought she was darling. My little girl isn't so little anymore-- she was a wonderful dining companion.

Ron and Libi went out to dinner with Grammy for Cinco de Mayo. What Mexican restaurant did they go to to celebrate their heritage??? Elephant Bar!!! Yep, Elephant Bar! I guess I can't talk I went to a meeting at Buca di Beppo, but I'm not half Mexican so I have an excuse :)

A beautiful Monday!

Today I did my Mom's Club duty and hosted a play date at Todd Longshore Park. It wasn't very well attended, but the few kids who were there had a good time.Libi found a patch of wet sand which was a new experience for her...It was a new experience for me to have her fling a full shovel full of sand in her hair. I had to turn her upside down to get it out and I know I'll have to get the rest out tonight in the tub. She's getting braver in her old age-- running across the suspension bridge, but she's still iffy on the slide. Some days it's great fun for her, but today she wanted nothing to do with it.It was way more fun to find some branches lying on the ground and use them to dance, sweep, twirl!

Sunday night silliness!

Due to folks feeling under the weather we stayed very close to home today. Ron took a few naps-- Libi did too and I just rested (since of course I'm getting sick now!)
Little Miss Silly decided that the overcoat from her Cabbage Patch doll would make a lovely hat. Ron and I looked up to find her prancing all around the family room with it on her head.

Before bed time Libi decided to spend some time in her cottage. To hear the conversations she was having with her toys-- it sounded like I was in there! I guess Libi does listen to me-- YIKES!!

Saturday with Jammy and Granpa....

Today Libi, Jammy and Daddy got a nice nap while Granpa and I ran around. Poor Libs and Ron aren't feeling well and Jammy got stuck under Libs so-- might as well take advantage of it and rest!We left Ron at home to convalesce and we went to Nana and Pop's to celebrate my Mom's 60th Birthday! On the ride down Libs asked to wear Jammy's glasses-- they make her look like a cop! When we got there Libi went out back to pick some flowers (her new tradition!)These are for you!She also gave Mickey, Donald and Doc rides on her tricycle...before hopping on herself! She helped Jammy open gifts...and told Pop all about her adventures using Jammy's photo album. The highlight for Lous is always dessert! Tonight she got ice cream cake-- which both Jammy and Nana refilled when she got low!During tubby time Jammy took some fun pictures...look at those eyelashes!!!
Story time lately has been the Hungry Caterpillar and one other story. She can almost quote the story she has heard it so many times. Whenever she sees a leaf now she holds it up and says, "Hungry caterpillar!"

Jammy's Birthday party at Disneyland

Today we took Jammy to Disneyland to help her celebrate her 60th Birthday!!!We were so lucky to get to see some of our favorite characters right off the bat. Minnie, Mickey, and Pluto!!!You may notice that Libi received her first ears from Jammy today. She's so lucky to have a Jammy who spends part of her birthday gift card on her!!!We also got 2--- count 'em-- 2 buttons. One to help Jammy celebrate and the other to confirm us all as Honorary citizens of Disneyland. This was, after all, Libi's 30th trip to D-Land!!!Libi noticed the store windows for the first time today. She spent a great deal of time wandering from window to window pointing out all her favorite characters.Next we went to DCA so that Libi could ride the one atraction she kept asking for...Monster's Inc.We stopped afterwards for a photo shoot with some of our monster friends-- I had never seen it before!
On our way to Bug's Land we saw Goofy. Libi was so funny approaching him... take a peak!

What a silly goose!!!We rode Heimlich's ride for the first time since Libi really became familiar with the movie. She watches Bugs Life or Monsters Inc. almost every day! We love our Pixar fliks! We finally stopped for nourishment on our way out of the parks. Libs really enjoyed her carrots and PB and J!
It was a long, but very fun day!
